Banji
The studio doors can finally be locked, time for the stage. Banji is back in February with a new record! The Utrecht-based quartet shifts effortlessly between alternative indie, electro-funk, and playful hip-hop, always consciously pushing the boundaries of these genres. The wait is (almost) over, and they are back to stay.
Banji’s debut album was released in 2022, a project they had begun as early as 2018. Their breakthrough was dampened by the coronavirus pandemic, giving the band time to fine-tune their sound and experiment endlessly. In the meantime, the band certainly didn’t sit idle; they focused on building their lives, finding homes of their own, and figuring out which path suited them best. Making music was never far from their thoughts, however.
Now, in 2026, Banji is fully back in action. Their new single, ‘IN MOTION’, deals with the urge to grow without losing oneself. This ties in with their other single, ‘CAREFREE’, which emphasizes that a carefree existence is only possible if you choose to take a step back. The lyrics are empowering, and the sound is uplifting. The band performed at Wilde Weide this summer and will soon be playing at Merleyn!
