Personal Trainer
The tirelessly creative Dutch indie-rock veterans Personal Trainer have gradually risen from the Amsterdam underground to become a band that tours the globe as part of the impressive roster of the Bella Union record label. They return to Doornroosje in March for a show centred around their brand-new album, “Human Assholes”.
Personal Trainer, the band led by Willem Smit, made a major decision when recording their new album, opting to use the acoustic guitar as their starting point. Perhaps even more importantly, the songs weren’t written behind a computer screen by cutting and pasting elements together; instead, they were crafted in a physical space with the rest of the band.
In their early days, their live line-up frequently changed, all while maintaining a keen eye for the absurd. They went on to release their self-issued debut album, “Big Love Blanket”, in 2022, followed by “Still Willing” in 2024.
Renowned for their hyperactive, playful, and inventive indie-rock shows, they have toured extensively, playing festivals ranging from Lowlands and SXSW to End of the Road and Iceland Airwaves. To top it all off, they performed their biggest headline show to date at the Carré theatre last September.
