Luwten
Luwten moves between the electronic and the acoustic, the familiar and the strange. In this musical guise, musician and producer Tessa Douwstra sings with a whispered intensity about what it feels like to be here.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Steve Reich, Solange, and Sparklehorse, she seeks out songs where sound and words hold equal weight, and the room itself is as audible as the music being played. Listening to her, you can almost picture her sitting right there at the microphone.
Following her acclaimed self-titled debut, Luwten released the follow-up album “Draft” in 2021, once again created with musical partner Binkbeats. “Draft” was named Best Dutch Album of the Year by both OOR and 3VOOR12. She is currently putting the finishing touches on her next album, which she will showcase during this tour.
Luwten enjoys collaborating between album cycles. She has worked on releases with Cero Ismael, Elmer, De Staat, Pitou, and Naaz; created performances with Binkbeats, the B.O.X. Baroque Ensemble, and saxophonist Kika Sprangers; composed music for an installation at the Centraal Museum; and served as a supporting act for artists including Men I Trust.
